GALLERY DEPARTMENT

Head of the Department: Mladen Mitar

During the 1960s the Moslavina Museum began to collect valuable works of art, for the most part through donations, and to a lesser extent through acquisitions. In 1972 the Gallery Department was opened. The permanent exhibition was situated in the attic of the Museum, but only some thirty of the most valuable works were exhibited. The Kutina Municipal Council gave the Museum the building of the bank that was built in a historicist style. The ground floor of the building has been set aside for temporary exhibitions, while the permanent exhibition is on the first floor.

The collection holds 650 works made in various techniques (oils, pastels, water colours, prints and sculptures). All these works are not graced with the same level of artistic value, but they are a good foundation for the development of gallery operations. Three donations were crucial in the creation of the collection: a donation of some thirty paintings from Rudolf Donassy's family in 1972, the donation by Ivan Milat on the occasion of an exhibition in 1982 and the donation of Zorka Sever, who donated works with folk motifs from Moslavina to the Museum. There are also works by the internationally acclaimed artist Miroslav Šutej. More than 50 authors of works in this collection are to be found in encyclopaedias of art. This is a heterogeneous collection and it illustrates 20th century art in Croatia.
